The MongoDB Node.js driver received a minor version update, moving from version 4.8.0 to 4.8.1. Both versions maintain the same core dependencies, including bson, socks, denque, saslprep, and mongodb-connection-string-url, ensuring a consistent foundation for interacting with MongoDB databases. The development dependencies also remain identical, suggesting that the update primarily addresses internal improvements, bug fixes, or minor enhancements rather than introducing significant new features. Developers already using version 4.8.0 should find the upgrade to 4.8.1 straightforward, with minimal risk of breaking changes in their existing code.
A notable difference lies in their release dates; version 4.8.1 was published on July 26, 2022, while 4.8.0 was released on July 13, 2022. This short interval suggests that version 4.8.1 might address issues discovered shortly after the release of 4.8.0. Additionally, the unpackedSize of 4.8.1 is slightly smaller (2594579 bytes) than 4.8.0 (2625068 bytes) this could mean that some unnecessary assets or files were removed to optimize the new package and its size. While the file count remains consistent at 312, developers should always review the changelog or release notes for detailed information on specific fixes or improvements included in the update to ensure a smooth transition and benefit from any resolved issues.

MongoDB Driver may publish events containing authentication-related data
Some MongoDB Drivers may erroneously publish events containing authentication-related data to a command listener configured by an application. The published events may contain security-sensitive data when specific authentication-related commands are executed.
Without due care, an application may inadvertently expose this sensitive information, e.g., by writing it to a log file. This issue only arises if an application enables the command listener feature (this is not enabled by default).
This issue affects the MongoDB C Driver 1.0.0 prior to 1.17.7, MongoDB PHP Driver 1.0.0 prior to 1.9.2, MongoDB Swift Driver 1.0.0 prior to 1.1.1, MongoDB Node.js Driver 3.6 prior to 3.6.10, MongoDB Node.js Driver 4.0 prior to 4.17.0 and MongoDB Node.js Driver 5.0 prior to 5.8.0. This issue also affects users of the MongoDB C++ Driver dependent on the C driver 1.0.0 prior to 1.17.7 (C++ driver prior to 3.7.0).
